What is advanced blemish removal with electrolysis?
Advanced blemish removal with electrolysis is a non-invasive technique that uses low-level electrical currents to target and treat a variety of skin blemishes, including skin tags, milia, broken capillaries, and other minor skin irregularities. It’s precise and minimises damage to surrounding skin, making it ideal for delicate areas.
How does electrolysis blemish removal work?
In electrolysis blemish removal, a small, sterile probe is inserted into the blemish or placed near the skin surface. A low electrical current is then applied, causing controlled heat or chemical reactions that break down the tissue or seal off blood vessels. The treated blemish then naturally fades, scabs, or sheds over time.
What types of blemishes can electrolysis treat?
Electrolysis can be used to treat a wide range of skin imperfections, including:
- Skin tags: Small, benign skin growths often found on the neck, underarms, or other areas of friction.
- Milia: Small, white keratin-filled cysts, commonly found around the eyes or cheeks.
- Broken capillaries: Tiny, visible blood vessels, usually on the face.
- Cherry angiomas: Small, red or purple vascular growths.
- Sebaceous hyperplasia: Enlarged oil glands that appear as small bumps.
- Warts and other minor skin lesions: Such as small moles (pending medical clearance).
However, it’s best to consult a qualified professional to confirm which blemishes can be treated safely.
Mole removal
Moles require medical diagnosis before treatment. We can refer to Doctor Xavier for this and he can diagnose and treat if required or refer back to us if there is no medical concern.
Some skin lesions can be treated upon one session whereas some may require a few treatments to get an end result.
Pigmentation Removal
Laser Pigmentation Removal works to safely and effectively reduce the appearance of freckles, pigmentation, and post-trauma pigmentation including acne scars and age spots. The laser targets only the pigmented lesion in the skin which absorbs the light, without damaging the surrounding skin. The laser heats up and shatters the pigment. The pigment is then drawn to the surface without harming the surrounding tissue.
Once drawn to the surface, the pigmented lesions will fade or dry and flake off the treated area, leaving the skin with an even tone and complexion.
We have multiple treatment options for pigmentation. The Q-switch 532 laser for localised deep pigment such as sun spots, or Intense Pulsed Light for more general superficial pigmentation.
Treatment options will be discussed upon consultation and a tailored treatment plan made for each individual.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, electrolysis is generally safe for all skin types and tones when performed by a licensed practitioner. Since the treatment is highly targeted, it reduces the risk of hyperpigmentation or scarring that may be associated with other treatments. However, darker skin types may require extra caution to avoid pigmentation changes.
The sensation varies depending on the blemish and skin sensitivity, but many describe it as a slight tingling or mild heat sensation. Some people experience minor discomfort, especially on more sensitive areas. Topical numbing cream can often be applied beforehand to improve comfort.
A session can take anywhere from a few minutes to about 30 minutes, depending on the number and size of blemishes being treated. Small blemishes can often be treated in seconds, while more stubborn areas may take slightly longer.
In many cases, blemishes can be effectively treated in just one session. However, certain conditions, like extensive broken capillaries or recurring skin tags, may require follow-up treatments for optimal results. Your provider will recommend a treatment plan based on your specific needs.
After treatment, the treated area may appear slightly red or swollen, which usually subsides within a few hours. You might also notice a small scab or crust on the treated spot, which will flake off naturally within a few days. It’s essential not to pick at these scabs to avoid scarring.
Aftercare is straightforward but essential for optimal healing:
• Avoid touching or picking the treated area.
• Keep the area clean and avoid applying makeup or harsh products until it has healed.
• Apply a soothing or antibacterial ointment as recommended by your provider.
• Avoid sun exposure and use SPF to prevent hyperpigmentation on the treated skin.
Following these aftercare steps helps reduce the risk of infection or scarring.
For most blemishes, results are permanent. Skin tags, milia, and certain types of capillaries typically won’t return once treated. However, if you’re prone to certain skin conditions (like milia or skin tags), new blemishes may develop in different areas over time, so maintenance treatments might be needed.
Electrolysis is precise, minimally invasive, and effective for a variety of blemishes. Unlike laser treatments, which are sometimes restricted by skin tone, electrolysis is safe for all skin types. Additionally, electrolysis targets individual blemishes without affecting surrounding skin, which can be gentler on delicate areas.
Only trained and certified electrologists or medical practitioners should perform this procedure. Be sure to choose a reputable clinic with experienced professionals who can provide safe, effective treatment.
